Shake, Shake, Shake! Shake your Shaker Box!
Shaker Boxes are not only quick and easy to make,
but they are down right fun to look at! They add a whole
new dimension to your scrapbook. Besides making your scrapbook
much more interactive, it is something that you will
cherish for years to come. With a little imagination, shaker
boxes are bound to become your next scrapbooking addiction.
The Basic Necessities!
- Cardstock
- Scissors
- Double sided foam tape
- Plastic sheet protector
- Glue
- "Shakeables" as described below
Directions
- Cut 2 pieces of cardstock or heavy paper and 1 plastic sheet protector
into exactly the same size and shape. One piece of cardstock
will be your background of your box. With the second piece,
cut out the center (kind of like a picture frame). This will
be the window or "see through" part to your box.
- Line the edges of the background paper with double sided
foam tape. This makes a container for your shakeables.
Fill your punchies, beads or whatever filler you have chosen
inside, being careful not to get your fillers stuck to the tape.
- Remove the backing of the foam tape and then secure the plastic
protector to the top. Then glue the window piece of cardstock on top of
the plastic.
- Then decorate as you wish!

If your plastic protector has static cling, rub a fabric
softener sheet on it until the cling is gone.
Make your plastic sheet a little smaller than the rest
of the sheets. That way the foam tape will hold part of
the top of the box as well as the sheet protector.
Play around with the look of the shaker box. Mount it on
torn paper or use lots of layers of paper.
Use beads, lucky pennies, seeds, punchies, buttons,
flowers, buds, candy corn, leaves, dirt, sand, sea
shells, keys, grass blades, fish line and postage stamps.
Stay away from scented items like, spices or whatever.
Even though the box is technically sealed, the smell could permeate your entire scrapbook.
You don’t even need to have your shaker box rattle or shake.
You can decorate your box so that it looks like a window.
Decorate the background piece of paper with rubber stamps,
chalk or with die cuts. So that when the shakables settle to
the bottom, you will have something pretty to look at.
Use die cuts for your shaker box.
Use Vellum as the window. Then use brightly colored fillers,
so that they will show through with a muted look.
Double the layers of the foam tape. This will increase the
capacity for more fillers.
You can also use foam dots instead of the tape. But the dots
will require more cutting and planning.
